Piernikowski: Anxiety, Darkness, and Atmosphere
With Syny, he explored new territories for Polish hip-hop. In the music of this truly cult duo—disbanded in 2021—rap intertwined with ambient, electronics, and noir poetry. In 2024, Piernikowski returned with new solo material. Beyond Echo of Time is a synthesizer-driven journey through emotions and textures, proving that Piernikowski is a complete and unique creator. His concerts resemble shamanic rituals shrouded in mist—so audiences at the Fonomo Music & Film Festival can expect a truly exceptional experience.
From Syny to Solitude
Born in Szczecin and living in Poznań for years, Piernikowski co-founded the hip-hop group Napszykłat. His solo debut album, Się żegnaj (2012), was warmly received, and its unique live performances led to a collaboration with director Jan Klata, for whom Piernikowski composed music for three theatrical productions: Oedipus the King, Polish Thermopylae, and Public Enemy. Together with 1988, he formed Syny—a duo that, despite releasing only two full-length albums, revolutionized the Polish urban music scene. The records Orient and Sen gained cult status and paved the way for new forms of expression. After Syny disbanded, Piernikowski continued further—toward increasingly personal and conceptual work.
Experiment and Theatre
Beyond his work with Jan Klata, Piernikowski also composed for stage productions by Krzysztof Garbaczewski and Jakub Skrzywanek. These experiences shaped his approach to narrative and sonic space—strongly visual, dramatic, and charged with emotion. In 2017, he released another solo album, No Fun, followed two years later by The Best of Moje Getto, which featured guest appearances by Brodka, Hades, Kacha Kowalczyk (of Coals), Adam Repucha, and Michał Fekter. That same year, 2019, he was nominated for the Polityka Passport award in the Popular Music category.
A New Chapter: Beyond Echo of Time
Piernikowski’s latest work is a conceptual journey into the world of experimental electronics. Once again, he is joined by guest artists—including Antonina Nowacka, Jacek Sienkiewicz, and Justyna Święs. The album reaffirms that the Poznań-based artist is one of the most distinctive and innovative voices in contemporary Polish electronic music. His concert at the Fonomo Music & Film Festival is sure to prove that.
