Ciśnienie – In Search of Sonic Intensity
The Katowice-based band Ciśnienie was formed with a single goal: to create the most striking and intense musical climaxes imaginable. From the very beginning, they have pursued this mission with iron-clad consistency, as evidenced by enthusiastic reviews of their albums and audience reactions after their shows.
Ciśnienie is a live band through and through, revealing its full power in the act of spontaneous creation — and it will be no different this October at the 14th edition of the Fonomo Music & Film Festival. Expect a true sonic explosion.
A Post-Jazz Apocalypse
Ciśnienie’s music draws from many sources — the Katowice ensemble takes inspiration from post-rock, orchestral music, and trance-like jazz, with references oscillating between bands such as Swans, Fire! Orchestra, and Godspeed You! Black Emperor, and the works of H. M. Górecki or Arvo Pärt. Saxophone, violin, and keyboards merge in a unique blend with seemingly mismatched distorted bass and frenetic drums. The result is exceptionally colorful and diverse: from improvised, psychedelic ambient, through classically understood harmony, to rhythm-driven, ostinato walls of sound.
Don’t expect obvious paths or clear genre boundaries here; if you hear jazz in Ciśnienie’s music, it’s jazz played as if by Neurosis. Even that comparison feels too simple when describing the multi-layered creativity of this quintet.
Concerts – Raw Energy and Power
Ciśnienie is currently promoting their latest album Zwierzakom, released on the penultimate day of 2023. Like all their previous records, Zwierzakom was recorded live — because it’s in concert that the music of this Katowice group is experienced with maximum intensity. This is the core of Ciśnienie’s philosophy. So far, the band has played over 100 shows in Poland, Germany, the Netherlands, Portugal, Romania, and the Czech Republic.
