MOIN – rethinking guitar rock

London-based trio Moin is redefining what a guitar band can be, emerging as one of the most compelling projects in contemporary alternative music. Their sound is a high-energy melting pot where grunge, shoegaze and post-rock collide with improvisation and experimental electronics.

Between tradition and guitar revolution

Moin was founded by Tom Halstead and Joe Andrews, long-time explorers of the intersections between electronic music, industrial sounds and experimentation through their acclaimed duo Raime. Joining them is Valentina Magaletti – an exceptional drummer and one of the most respected figures on the European avant-garde scene, known for collaborations with Thurston Moore as well as projects such as Tomaga and Vanishing Twin.

While the group’s roots lie in experimental electronics, Moin turns toward the traditions of post-punk, noise rock and post-hardcore, deconstructing familiar forms and reassembling their fragments into something entirely new. Critics have noted that the band’s work both draws on the history of alternative rock and boldly pushes its boundaries forward.

Hypnotic noise and unpredictable melodies

Moin’s music thrives on contrast, balancing raw intensity with moments of subtlety. Magaletti’s powerful, organic drumming provides the foundation for repetitive guitar patterns and richly textured electronics. Drawing inspiration from grunge, shoegaze, post-rock and free-form improvisation, the trio uses an experimental approach to composition to create music that feels both familiar and utterly unpredictable — seemingly chaotic, yet meticulously crafted.

Their recent releases — the album You Never End, featuring vocal contributions from Olan Monk, James K, Coby Sey and Sophia Al-Maria, and the Belly Up EP — showcase a band at the height of its creative powers, open to collaboration across artistic disciplines and continuously expanding its own musical language.
