Daisy Cutter and Cosmodernism at Fonomo. Electronic music meets the microcosm

Concerts at Fonomo Music & Film Festival have always been encounters with artistic work that escapes simple definitions, bringing together sometimes distant styles, aesthetics, inspirations and cultural references. At times, they also combine different forms of artistic expression. Daisy Cutter’s concert, accompanied by visuals from Cosmodernism, will bring together two ways of observing the world – through rhythm and through the microscope.

Daisy Cutter – from classical music to techno

Daisy Cutter combines a classical music education with a fascination for electronic music. In her sets, techno meets house, bass and breaks, while sonic experimentation blends with dancefloor energy. She is a resident DJ at Warsaw’s Jasna 1 club, where she runs her own Wild At Heart series, as well as a co-founder of Radio Kapitał and Radiowa Akademia. Previously, she spent several years as part of the FLAUTA collective, organising events supporting people with refugee experience.

Her music has been heard at some of Poland’s leading clubs and festivals, including Up To Date and Audioriver, as well as at clubs and radio stations in Berlin, Prague, Amsterdam and Tbilisi. Daisy Cutter is also a graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts and is interested in the performative and community-building aspects of club culture.

Cosmodernism – experiments with matter and audiovisual abstraction

Cosmodernism is a project by visual artist Kamil Czapiga, whose work exists at the intersection of macro photography, microscopy and experimentation with matter.

Inks, pigments, ferrofluid, crystals, liquids, light and magnetic fields become materials for creating images reminiscent of cosmic landscapes, biological structures and unfamiliar organic forms. His work has been presented in exhibition, music and performance contexts, as well as used as visual material in artistic, stage and installation projects.

Importantly, these visuals are not the result of computer-generated imagery or artificial intelligence. Czapiga records real physical, chemical and optical processes taking place on a microscopic scale. At Fonomo, he will draw from his own archive of analogue macro- and microscopic recordings to create an original visual set developed especially for Daisy Cutter’s audiovisual performance.

Rather than music simply illustrated by images, the performance will be a meeting of two equal forms of expression – two distinctive ways of observing and interpreting the world.
