Jakub Kosecki – Art as a Field of Relations
“Polymorphic Międzymordzie”—the title of Jakub Kosecki’s exhibition presented at the Fonomo Music & Film Festival—is a metaphor for the omnipresent and dynamically transforming interfaces. The very term międzymordzie is nothing more than a humorous, awkward translation of the English word interface. Yet Kosecki places it in a much broader context, not limiting it to user–device interactions.

Międzymordzie as a Metaphor of Everyday Life

Interfaces mediate in all processes, shaping human behavior and determining our decisions. In Kosecki’s work, międzymordzie explains, opens access to new spaces, and acts as a mediator. The curatorial text becomes an interface for the exhibition; the exhibition itself—a three-dimensional matrix for the artworks; and the works mediate and translate the artist’s way of thinking. Objects stripped of their original context acquire new meanings—they become part of assemblages, site-specific installations, and conceptual structures, which the artist creates with the attentiveness of a sculptor and the sensitivity of an observer of everyday life.

The Creator in the Ecosystem of Independent Culture

Jakub Kosecki is a visual artist, curator, and musician. Born in Szczecin in 1996, he has lived and worked in Poznań since 2016. In 2019, he completed his BA in Intermedia, and in 2022, his MA in Curatorial Studies and Art Theory at the University of the Arts in Poznań. As a visual artist, he creates installations and objects, while his musical practice includes electronic compositions and experimental site-specific sound installations.

Between 2017 and 2021, he co-ran Galeria Luka. In 2020, together with curator Julianna Kulczyńska and the Luka collective, he co-founded Luka 5G, a virtual art space. Since 2021, he has been part of the collective and grassroots cultural institution Domie, where he curates exhibitions, co-develops the artistic program, and co-hosts the Domie radio series on Radio Kapitał. Since 2023, he has also been a member of the collective Umysł Biedaka. As an independent curator, he collaborates with both public art institutions and private galleries.

In creating Polymorphic Międzymordzie, Jakub Kosecki will make use of electronic waste sourced from the exhibition partner and sponsor of the Fonomo Music & Film Festival—Tesla Electrorecycling, based in Bydgoszcz.
